Freshers Fair
From Real Options Wiki
Introduction
At the early Agile conferences, most attendees knew at least one person who was connected to the Agile community. The ice breaker was a fun way for people to be introduced to new people.
Fast forward a few years and the Agile Conference now attracts individuals and small groups that are not connected to the Agile community. The ice breaker can now be an intimidating experience as people do not know where to start to find their crowd / birds of a feather / sub-community / or others with the same persona within the community. They normally find them by the end of the conference but the idea is to help them find their home(s) sooner.
To that end, we are holding a freshers's fair at the ice breaker. Newbies can go round and meet representatives of each community. Hopefully they will bump into people with similar interests. The aim is to help people find their niches. The communities should not see this as a competition in any way. We expect most people to join lots of different communities.
Each community will be given a flip chart and a pitch within the ice breaker. They write the name of their community on the flip-chart and hopefully newbies will wander past and say hi.
Each community can choose to have a coloured ribbon ( or any other totem / symbol ) to indicate membership of their community.
What you need to do
Sign up your community now. Choose a colour of ribbon if you like.
At the Agile 2009 ice breaker, turn up 30 minutes before the start (E.g., show up at 18:30 or 6:30PM). We will tell you the name of the room that you should fetch your flip chart from, and give you a long length of ribbon, a pair of scissors and a pile of safety pins if you so choose. You will "sign" for the flip-chart. At the end of the ice breaker, you will be responsible for ensuring the flip chart is returned to the room you took it from.
The colours listed below are those I already have. If you want another colour, please add it to the list but you will need to source the ribbon yourself.
